Day two: Zvolen and the surrounding countryside
A short hop from Banská Bystrica, Zvolen makes an easy second stop, with its own castle and a quieter, more residential pace than the regional capital. Use the rest of the day to explore at whatever speed feels right — this region isn't built for rushing between sights.

Banská Bystrica has a handful of solid options for regional Slovak cooking, including Starobystrická and the Slovak Restaurant and Brewery Arcade, both serving hearty, unpretentious dishes well suited to a day of walking.
