A place shaped across centuries
The massive keep at the heart of Budatín Castle dates to the 13th century, making it one of the region’s earliest surviving examples of Romanesque architecture. Since 2006 the castle has undergone significant renovation, and it now serves as a branch of the Považie Museum, dedicated to the history and culture of the wider Považie region.

The museum’s standout exhibit is its collection of over 5,000 decorative items crafted from metallic wire and sheet metal, tracing the region’s historic "drotár" (tinker) trade, in which itinerant craftsmen travelled across Europe repairing pottery with wire. The castle grounds include a public riverside park at the meeting point of the Kysuca and Váh rivers, free to enter separately from the museum.
