Senec sits about 25 kilometres east of Bratislava, in one of the sunniest parts of Slovakia, and owes its summer identity almost entirely to a happy accident of industry: decades of gravel extraction left behind a set of flooded pits that were gradually shaped into the lakes the town is now known for.
Today those lakes — known collectively as Slnečné jazerá, the Sunny Lakes — draw day-trippers from Bratislava and beyond throughout the warmer months, while the town itself keeps a quieter, more residential character outside the lake district. It's a practical example of a place where a single natural feature defines almost the entire visitor experience.
