An accidental 1971 discovery that built an 18-hectare water park
Thermal Park Dunajská Streda grew from a simple 1930s lido into an 18-hectare thermal water complex after a 1971 drilling project, aimed at something else entirely, struck mineral-rich water more than two kilometres underground.
Today the park combines four indoor and six outdoor pools with a seven-slide water tower and a 211-metre toboggan run, giving it enough scale to fill a full family day without visitors needing to travel further into the region.

Dunajská Streda's relationship with organised swimming began modestly: a small lido with two pools opened in 1930, offering little beyond a wooden diving board and a water slide, and it operated in that simple form until the 1960s.
Everything changed in spring 1971, when drilling intended for other purposes struck thermal water containing iodine, bromine and other minerals at a depth of nearly 2,500 metres, with the water emerging at 86°C. That discovery turned a modest local pool into a full thermal resort, expanded through the 1980s and rebuilt over time into the large-scale park operating today.
