Aquapark Tatralandia

Slovakia's largest water park, opened in 2003 on a thermal spring reaching 2,500 metres underground, with 28-plus slides and a year-round indoor tropical zone.

About this place

Slovakia's largest water park, built around a 2,500-metre thermal source

Tatralandia opened its doors on 5 July 2003, after construction that began the previous November, and quickly grew into the largest aquapark in Slovakia and one of the largest in Central Europe. Its thermal water source, a mineral spring reached at around 2,500 metres, emerges at 60.7°C.

Repeated expansions since opening — new pools and slides in 2004, a Western City themed area in 2005, an indoor tropical complex in 2007, and further slides and a 5D cinema in 2009 — have built it into a genuine multi-day destination rather than a single afternoon stop.

History and context

A place shaped across centuries

Construction on Tatralandia began on 14 November 2002, and the park opened to visitors on 5 July 2003. Growth followed quickly: 2004 brought Celtic saunas and additional pools and slides, and by July 2005, when a Western City theme area opened, annual attendance had reached 570,000 visitors.

Further expansion added an indoor tropical complex nicknamed Pirates of the Caribbean in 2007, along with a Palm Beach relaxation area, and a Tornado raft slide and 5D cinema followed in 2009 — a pattern of continual investment that has kept the park growing well beyond its original scope.

What to expect when you arrive

With 14 thermal, salt and freshwater pools reaching up to 38°C, 28 or more waterslides, and the year-round indoor Tropical Paradise zone kept at 30°C, Tatralandia offers enough variety to fill a full day without repetition.

The Celtic Sauna World adds a wellness dimension alongside the more obviously family-oriented slides and themed zones, making the park workable for mixed groups where not everyone wants the same pace of visit.
