AquaCity Poprad

An award-winning geothermal and solar-powered water park at the gateway to the High Tatras, drawing on mineral-rich water from 1,300 metres underground.

About this place

An eco-friendly water park recognised as the world's leading green resort

AquaCity Poprad markets itself as a genuinely self-sufficient resort, running its 13 thermal pools and water attractions on geothermal water and solar power rather than conventional energy, and the claim carries real weight: the operation prevents roughly 27 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions daily compared with a conventionally powered equivalent.

That approach earned AquaCity a World Travel Awards recognition as the World's Leading Green Resort, voted on by industry experts across 190 countries — a distinction that sets it apart from most large water parks, which rarely centre sustainability as a headline feature.

History and context

A place shaped across centuries

AquaCity was built around geothermal water rising from approximately 1,300 metres below ground, carrying more than 20 minerals considered beneficial to health. Rather than treating this simply as a novelty for pool temperatures, the resort built its entire energy strategy around geothermal and solar power, positioning sustainability as core to its identity from early on.

That commitment was formally recognised between 2007 and 2008, when AquaCity became the first winner of the World Travel Awards' "World's Leading Green Resort" category, judged by tourism professionals from 190 countries — a rare distinction for a water park of any size.

What to expect when you arrive

With 13 indoor and outdoor thermal pools ranging from 28°C to 38°C and more than 350 water attractions spread across the site, a visit to AquaCity genuinely benefits from a full day rather than a rushed afternoon. The mineral-rich thermal water is positioned as a wellness feature in its own right, not simply a warm pool.

Families and wellness-focused visitors alike tend to find enough variety here to justify the scale of the site, from slide-focused areas to quieter thermal relaxation pools.
